Red-Hot Rampage Reaps NL Reward
Monday, July 13th, 1908: Buck Herzog is respected by most Cincinnati Reds fans for his no-frills style of play. The 23-year-old shortstop went about his business with vigor last week to grab the National League Player of the Week honors.

He compiled a .526 average (10-19) with 1 home run, 11 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

For the season Herzog is hitting .242, batted in 39 runs with 1 home run and 29 runs scored.
AL's #1 Player, Strunk of Boston
Monday, July 13th, 1908: Amos Strunk burst onto the American League stage in a big way last week. This promising rookie center fielder for Boston garnered everyone's respect by putting up some remarkable numbers and picking up the Player of the Week trophy.

The 19-year-old haunted opposing pitchers hitting .458 (11-24) with no home runs and 0 RBIs last week.

This year Strunk is batting .326 with 112 hits and 4 home runs. He has scored 65 times and has batted in 43 runs.
Walker Shuts out Giants
Sunday, July 12th, 1908: Tom Walker was sneaky fast, on the mark and hard to hit today. He blanked the New York Giants 3-0 on 2 hits and had 2 walks and 5 strikeouts.

"You know what he's going to throw. You know what to expect. And you still can't hit it," the New York skipper told reporters after the shutout loss to the Chicago Cubs.

"He just had a real deceiving fastball today and he was throwing it for strikes."

So far this season Walker has a 3-8 record, 10 starts, 91 innings, 35 strikeouts and a 3.56 ERA.
